Surrey Park sent a large team of 29 swimmers, accompanied by Coaches Kylie, Tom and Sarah, and Team Managers Katie Walsh and Peta Barry, to South Australia for a training camp followed by the 5 days of competition at the South Australian State Championships from the 18th to 22nd January.

The competition was strong with a number of interstate visitors and a limit of 2 visitors per final. The meet produced some outstanding results for the Club with many swimmers qualifying for finals and a number collecting medals on the podium.

The majority of swimmers swam at least one PB time and as a result Surrey Park finished a very creditable 7th place on the club point score!

Swimmers reaching the podium in individual events were as follows:

Chantelle Underwood 7 Gold – 2 Bronze
Dani Smithson 2 Gold – 3 Silver – 1 Bronze
Aidan Gleeson 2 Gold – 2 Silver – 4 Bronze
Ryan Lobo 2 Gold – 1 Silver – 3 Bronze
Hamish Langford 1 Gold
Matt Burns 1 Bronze

The last session of the meet was made up of age group relays. These were were enjoyed by all. Team members had multiple realy swims and Surrey park achieved one relay gold medal and one silver one.

Overall a very healthy total of 15 Gold – 7 Silver – 11 Bronze medals for Surrey Park

Special mention to the Club’s “First Time” Interstate team members, and to all the support staff for their hard work over the 8 days, especially to the Team Managers for keeping the crew very well fed – Thank you ALL!
