Our Coaches Wrap Up of the Australian Open Championships. Well done to all our swimmers who competed!

Hamish McDougall, Tom Curran, Alex Good and Laura Davy from Surrey Park’s Open High Performance Squad together with Matt Brown travelled to Brisbane for the 2017 Australian Open Championships/World Championship Trials from Sun 7th to Thurs 15th April.

On Day 1, there were solid swims from both the boys. Tom looked strong in the 200 Backstroke and achieved a PB of  2.05.16. Hamish also looked good in the 100 Butterfly and was very happy with his PB of 55.92. Alex competed in the 100 Freestyle.

On Day 2, Tom equalled his PB in the 200 Freestyle with a strong swim. He went out very fast and hung on well. Alex had the 100 Butterfly.

On Day 3, Hamish did a big PB in the 200 Individual Medley finishing 13th overall and qualifying for the B Final. Tom did another PB in the 100 Backstroke with a swim of 58.76 (a sub 59 for the first time in his career). Alex competed in the 200 Free and 50 Fly

On Day 4, Hamish raced very well in the Heats of the 200 Butterfly and qualified to swim in the Finals. Well done to Hamish who finished 8th overall in a a very competitive field.

On Day 5, Laura and Alex both swam in the Heats of the 200 Butterfly; Congratulations and well done to Laura who achieved a PB of 2.14.40, over 2 secs faster than her entry time, and qualified for the A Final in which she finished 8th in a very strong field. Tom swam in the Heats of the 50 Backstroke.
