Benefits of swimming in mineral based water – it’s like a day spa!

Our learn to swim lessons at Blackburn and Heidelberg are run in mineral water pools that contain trace elements of minerals in the pool water; similar to the famous mineral water at Hepburn Springs or Mornington Peninsula.

Our water contains trace elements of magnesium and potassium, this is similar to the primary minerals found at Hepburn Springs, in fact our mineral levels are typically higher than those found at the springs!

  • Is your skin easily irritated by traditional chlorine pools?
  • Does your child have eczema, skin conditions or sensitive skin?
  • Does your child have allergies?
  • Do you want to reduce your child’s exposure to harsh pool chemicals?

Take swim lessons in our mineral based water pool!

You and your family will feel the difference as the water has a silky, gentle feeling against your skin, little to no irritation to your eyes, is kind to your hair, and leaves your skin feeling moisturised. Your body won’t need washing to get rid of the chlorine smell which often occurs with chlorine only pools.

What is the difference between mineral water and a salt water pool?

Regular salt water pools use sodium chloride (table salt) as the salt in the water but Surrey Park Swimming mineral salt water pools use a combination of both potassium chloride and magnesium chloride in the water, which help to moisturise your skin and is gentler.

I thought mineral water pools don’t use chlorine?

The Victorian Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2009 requires all public pools in Victoria to have a minimum free chlorine level of 1 mg/l (or 2mg/l of free bromine) and a maximum of 8mg/l (or parts per million).Mineral and salt water pools don’t require chlorine to be separately added to the water as it electrically converts the pool salts already in the water into the free chlorine required to maintain hygiene levels.

What type of sanitation system is used at Surrey Park’s mineral pools?

The primary sanitation system we use is the free chlorine generated from the mineral salts, which is constantly at work in the water. We also have a secondary advanced oxidation process (AOP) sanitation system which treats the water as it circulates through the plant room. The AOP system utilises ozone gas and ultraviolet (UV) light to treat the circulating water. It is able to reduce chloramines that cause eye irritation, asthma, the “chlorine smell”, and other health issues by eliminating bacteria, viruses and protozoa. The system dramatically reduces the demand for chemicals thus practically eliminating chemical odors and irritation.

Testimonials

“My baby and child no longer have itchy skin or rashes after swimming in the Surrey Park Swimming mineral water pool. Often when we went to highly chlorinated pools even a shower or bath wouldn’t remove the smell completely, but now we have no issues! The private centres are so nice and provide a quiet learning environment and my kids don’t get distracted. I would highly recommend learning to swim in this amazing water!” — Emily

“It’s peace of mind knowing that I don’t have to compromise my child’s health for her love of swimming.” —Nicole
