Squad swimming is a core part of the learn to swim journey, it helps swimmers strengthen their skills and grow in confidence while forming friendships and enjoying the teamwork that comes with training together.
Development Squad helps swimmers refine their proficiency in all four strokes whilst learning new squad skills in a supportive environment.
Development Squad is part of our Learn to Swim program. In one-hour sessions, swimmers refine their skills in all four strokes and learn the basics of squad training in a fun, supportive environment. They also continue their water safety education, working towards the Victorian Water Safety Certificate, as they progress towards becoming a confident and capable swimmer.

After Development Squad swimmers progress into Junior Squad where they put into practice skills developed throughout the learn to swim program.
Junior Squad is the recommended minimum level of our learn to swim program, it builds the foundations to become a competent swimmer; who is able to keep swimming whilst tired and have confidence in their own swimming ability. This helps prepare them to handle unexpected situations in water without panicking.
Swimmers refine their freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly techniques while building overall strength and endurance. They also continue developing their water safety education, working towards completing the Victorian Water Safety Certificate.
Development Squad sessions run weeknights during the school term for 60 minutes.
This one hour squad session develops swimmers endurance, technique, and confidence in all 4 strokes while receiving more advanced water safety techniques and knowledge.
Our Junior Squad program is where swimmers turn strong foundations into lasting capability — building competence, confidence, and a love for the water.
They put into practice everything learnt in Development Squad. Each session blends fun, fitness, and teamwork while refining technique and fostering a love for squad swimming. The Junior Squad represents the final stage of our learn to swim journey, from Junior squads our swimmers progress into our Club squad program or move across to our Fitness Squad.

"Our family has been associated with Surrey Park Swimming for close to 40 years now. As grandparents it has been a real pleasure to see our grandsons learning to swim at the same club that taught their fathers to swim competently and then later to swim competitively with the Surrey Park Swimming Club. Surrey Park Swimming had an excellent learn to swim program 40 years ago and in my opinion has improved over the years. Our grandsons love their swimming lessons and we love the professionalism and good humour of the many teachers."
