Matt Burns

Matt is a former Surrey Park athlete who represented the Club in Open Water events at National level. He originally worked as an Instructor in Surrey Park’s Learn to Swim program and went on to assist with the co-ordination of Surrey Park’s Schools Program.
He then obtained a Swimming Australia Development Coach Licence and started coaching the Club’s Junior Squads. He has now accumulated a number of years of experience coaching at different levels within the Surrey Park program.
Matt is now Surrey Park’s Lead Junior Coach, In this role, he oversees the Club’s Junior and State Development squad programs. He also assists with the co-ordination of the progression of swimmers from Development Squad into Junior Squad.
Matt’s strong focus on technique and skills is very important for younger newer squad swimmers. He also develops a great rapport with them. Matt has a deep understanding of Surrey Park’s values and his focus is on ensuring our swimmers foster health and sustainable long-term swimming journeys and enjoy the sport.
