Located in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, we offer a progressive learn to swim program for children aged between 3 to 16 years at Aqualink Box Hill and our mineral based salt water pool at Blackburn Learn to Swim Centre.
From 3 years of age, your child will learn to swim independently with one of our qualified instructors, progressing through our Pre-School program into the corresponding School-Age level once they begin school.
Our program consists of 8 levels, from complete beginner, all the way through to those who are swimming at squad levels. Throughout all levels of our program, we have a strong emphasis on correct stroke technique, teaching your child the foundations that enable them to simply improve as swimmers, or follow into our competitive swimming streams if they have aspirations to do so.
We believe your child will learn best when nurtured, engaged and having fun. The trust between them and our instructors is imperative to assure they feel safe trying new things for the first time. Our class sizes reflect this ethos, enabling greater focus within the learning environment, as well as individualised attention and feedback.
Water Safety Skills
Our skills criteria incorporates a targeted water safety component, where real-life scenarios are mimicked and valuable survival techniques are taught. Children will start to learn skills including: how to signal if they are in trouble, how to identify safe areas to swim and rip currents, call 000, perform safe rescue techniques, and patient recovery positions. Teaching your child not only how to survive but also rescue in and around water is an essential skill they will retain for life.
Teen Learn to Swim Classes
If your child commences swimming at a later stage in life, to ensure lessons are inclusive and enjoyable, we offer teen classes starting from 11 years of age. We recognise they will prefer to learn with swimmers their age, especially if they are new to swimming. If your child is above 16 years we offer a progressive adult learn to swim program.
We would love for you to be a part of the Surrey Park family and join us in giving your child one of the most important skills they will gain in life.
Our lessons are fun with themed weeks throughout the year;
Our lead instructors on the pool deck offer feedback or address concerns or queries you have;
We provide an extra teacher in the water giving individualised attention to swimmers when needed.
We logically step our swimmers through our progressive program once they master key skill sets in their level. Beginning with building basic water skills, then progressing through to developing, refining and consolidating all four competitive strokes.
To ensure your child is a confident and safe swimmer we recommend they progress through to the end of our program and swim all year round.
Once students reach Level 8/Development Squad they have learnt the skills associated with swimming; they are now beginner swimmers. In Level 8/Development Squad the swimmers begin learning how to swim in more real world situations; swimming longer distances, continuing to swim when tierd, etc
After Level 8/Development Squad swimmers progress to the Club’s Junior squad, in Junior Squad swimmers improve their competence in the water in a social and fun environment, whilst at the same time they are being prepared equally for competitive swimming or recreational swimming (eg in the surf, in a river, etc)
My 2 daughters aged 2 and 8 have a wonderful swimming experience with Surrey Park. The teachers have all been great and have made the lessons such fun and positive experience that they both always look forward to their swimming every week. I would recommend Surrey Park in a heartbeatAmyWhat our customers are saying
