Swimming Teacher

Surrey Park Swimming will always have space for enthusiastic, motivated, friendly and reliable staff for our team.

Our staff receive discounts on our merchandise, Aqualink gym memberships, cafe items and merchandise. We encourage and run professional development session, teaching extension courses and staff social events. Our swim teachers may have the opportunity to progress to Squad Coaching, Supervisor and Coordination positions.

Positions are located at the City of Whitehorse operated Aqualink Box Hill, and our own Blackburn Aquatic Centre (Box Hill South). Lessons operate 7 days a week.

If you are interested in applying you must be AUSTSWIM or Swim Australia qualified (LSV applicants will be considered on a case by case basis), hold a current CPR certificate, first aid level 2, and a valid employee Working with Children’s Check.  To apply complete the employment inquiry form and please let us know why you would like to join our team.

All Swim Teacher applicants will be required to undergo a teacher competency assessment as a part of the application process.

In accordance with Child Safe standards we require all job applicants to undergo an extensive screening and background check process prior to appointment.

How to become a Swimming Teacher

  • Please contact AUSTSWIM or Swim Australia to find out more about becoming a swim teacher
  • We regularly host Swim Australia Teacher courses at our purpose built centre, Blackburn Aquatic Centre
  • After completing either the Swim Australia or AUSTSWIM course, candidates are required to do training hours with qualified instructors to get real, hands-on experience in swim teaching. Candidates are encouraged to apply to complete their training hours with Surrey Park Swimming. These hours are unpaid but necessary to complete your qualification.
  • Once confident, candidates can be assessed for teaching competency by one of our qualified Assessor.
  • There is the potential for future employment with Surrey Park after you are deemed competent as a swimming teacher.

How to become a Swimming Coach

  • Coaching Accreditations are managed by Swimming Australia
  • The first step in the accreditation process is to obtain a Swim Australia Foundation Coach or an AUSTSWIM Towards Competitive Strokes qualification
  • Surrey Park swim teachers can also progress to become squad coaches, many gaining experience assisting with Swim School Squads and Fitness Squads
  • There is the potential for future employment with Surrey Park Swimming after you are deemed competent and passed all appropriate qualifications.
