Kids aged 3 years to 12 years
The crawling and tottering days are over. Children are more physically capable, with an increasing sense of adventurousness and independence. Wading pools and plastic clam shells full of water aren’t what they used to be. Now it is play dates at the pool, jumps, dives, ‘who-can-make-the-biggest-splash’ competitions, waves at the beach, perhaps snorkelling or surfing, and school swimming competitions. And for some, of course, the dream of one day being a champion swimmer.

The wonders of the world of water!
Whether your child has already learnt basic water skills and is ready for new challenges or whether your child is new to water and looking for encouragement in developing their confidence, Surrey Park has classes for all children at all levels to develop the confidence, skills, and appreciation of water safety needed so that they can enjoy water activities.
Our skilled instructors begin with simple skills such as comfortably putting your head under water and relaxed breathing, floating on your back, being in deeper water and basic safety techniques. As levels progress, swimming stroke technique and skills are developed across all strokes and at the higher levels children are taught more advanced swimming skills, including butterfly, diving, tumble turns, and other racing skills.
Throughout all levels an understanding of water safety is developed. Meanwhile, our ‘Lead Instructors’ are always poolside monitoring and providing ongoing assessment of the development of your child’s skills. Then, when they are ready – often much to the delight of children – they are invited to move up to the next level to further advance their skills.
Beyond this? We encourage each swimmer to progress to at least the end of our Junior beginner squad at Surrey Park. We are very pleased to say that many swimmers choose to progress into our junior intermediate squads for advanced level swimming and racing. We think this is an excellent indication of the success of our children’s swimming lesson program and how much kids have enjoyed the experience.

Swimming Lessons for Teenagers and secondary school kids
Teenagers aged 11 years to 16 years
The teenage years. We’ve been through them. Fantastic years as we develop as people. We want to try new things, we want to participate, explore and define our own boundaries. Years also when it can be ‘oh so important’ (to us) that we fit in: socially with friends and peers, at school and school sport, and in leisure activities.

For many teens – particularly in Australia – water, water based activities, and swimming are an established part of life. But at Surrey Park we recognise that there are many teenagers for whom this may not be the case. There can be many reasons: a childhood fear or lack of confidence around water, limited exposure to water based activities (maybe because of environment or background), or simply because interests change and develop as we get older.
Then, as teens, we want to be able to join in. We want to leap in. And parents want their teens to be able to do so with confidence and safely.
Surrey Park offers a dedicated teenage swimming program for ages 11-16 years. Teenagers are placed in classes of no more than 4 swimmers of similar age and ability and lessons are both age and ability appropriate. Swimmers can join at beginner, intermediate or advanced level and swimming skills and water safety are taught. Progress through the levels is encouraged as swimmers skills develop.
At Surrey Park we know that there should be no barriers for teens to fully and safely enjoy water and everything it has to offer. It is our pleasure to give them the opportunity to do so. Enrol your teen today.

Level Progression
Progression through our levels in these programs is ability based. There are 10 skills that need to be mastered in order to progress to the next level. Every lesson, our highly qualified teachers will be targeting the specific skills your child needs to work on while reviewing previously mastered skills. Teachers will also ensure your child receives a thorough water safety knowledge to learn how to keep themselves safer around different bodies of water.
Our Lead Instructors wear red polo tops and are the staff who sign off on every student who moves through our program. This ensures your child will be well prepared for the next level and ensures each child progresses through our program at a steady rate and avoids stagnating. Please speak to our Lead Instructors on pool deck if you have any questions about your child’s feedback and check the app to see progress updates throughout the term.
